Human Bones Unearthed in Rome Restaurant Renovation
Rome, March 12 – Human remains have been discovered during renovation work at a former pizzeria located on Via delle Sette Chiese in the Garbatella district. Construction workers, while excavating beneath the floor, stumbled upon the bones, which may have been mixed with animal remains, and promptly alerted authorities.
Police and Forensic Teams Investigate
Last Monday, forensic experts from the Scientific Police, accompanied by investigators from the Mobile Squad, conducted an inspection of the premises. The team’s objective was to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the discovery and to take possession of the bones for further examination by a forensic pathologist.
At present, the origin of the remains and the precise date of death of the individual to whom they belong remain undetermined. However, preliminary assessments suggest the possibility that the death occurred approximately 15 years ago. This timeframe awaits confirmation from additional forensic tests. In the interim, investigators have submitted a report to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which may lead to the opening of a formal inquiry.
Reconstructing the History of the Premises
Investigators have also initiated efforts to reconstruct the history of the building where the renovation work was underway. The work has been temporarily suspended to facilitate the recovery of all human and other remains. Authorities are examining the various ownerships and businesses that may have occupied the location, particularly in light of the unconfirmed possibility that the discovered bones are relatively recent.
Further medico-legal investigations are expected to conclude in the coming weeks, potentially providing more answers to what is emerging as a genuine mystery.
