ROME – Sport, fresh air, and solidarity will once again unite in the heart of the Capital. On Saturday, March 21, 2026, the Stracittadina di Roma returns, a non-competitive run-walk of approximately five kilometers open to everyone. The event is scheduled for 9:00 AM, starting from the Imperial Forums and finishing at the Circus Maximus.
A Run for Solidarity: Supporting Children in Need
This initiative, combining sport and celebration, will involve families, friends, children, and even four-legged companions. The SOS Children’s Villages organization is promoting solidarity participation, inviting citizens to run or walk together to support programs dedicated to children and adolescents in their Villages and projects.
Participation is Key: Run or Walk, Everyone is Welcome
The Stracittadina offers an opportunity to enjoy a day outdoors and share a moment of sport in Rome’s historic center. The approximately five-kilometer route can be tackled by running or simply walking, as it is not a competition but an event open to anyone who wishes to participate.
The goal is to promote inclusion and participation while providing concrete support for projects dedicated to minors who lack adequate parental care.
How to Participate and What’s Included
A minimum donation is required to take part in the event. Registration costs 20 euros per person, while for children aged 0 to 8, the fee is 10 euros. A symbolic participation fee of 6 euros is also foreseen for dogs accompanying their owners along the route.
The donation includes a race pack containing a t-shirt, bib, medal, and a gym bag, serving as a memento of the day and the participants’ commitment to solidarity.
Concrete Help for Children’s Programs
The essence of the initiative is encapsulated in the message promoted by the organizers: the more people who participate, the greater the support for the children and adolescents assisted by the organization. Each registration will contribute to strengthening the family support, reception, and autonomy programs promoted by SOS Children’s Villages in Italy.
During the day, activists from the association will be present with an information stand within the Charity Village set up at the Circus Maximus, where it will be possible to learn more about the organization’s activities.
SOS Children’s Villages: A Global Presence
SOS Children’s Villages ETS is part of the international federation SOS Children’s Villages, active in more than 130 countries and territories. Since 1949, the organization has worked to support children and young people who lack an adequate family environment, aiming to provide them with protection, opportunities, and the chance to build an independent life.
Commitment in Italy
In Italy, the organization has been operating for over sixty years and leads the SOS Children’s Villages Network, which brings together the cooperatives responsible for managing the SOS Villages. Activities are developed through eight programs and structures in Trento, Ostuni, Vicenza, Saronno, Mantua, Turin, Crotone, and Milan.
Overall, the organization cares for over 3,100 people, including children, adolescents, and families facing severe hardship, and promotes advocacy and awareness activities to support the rights of over 51,000 children and young people.
A Hub for Mental Health
Within the international network, SOS Children’s Villages ETS also hosts the Hub dedicated to mental health and psychosocial support for the SOS Children’s Villages federation, a center of expertise that contributes to the development of programs and interventions dedicated to the psychological well-being of minors.
