Rome, March 3, 2026 – The construction of new stations at Torrino Mezzocammino and Giardino di Roma on the Roma-Lido railway line is anticipated to begin in the coming weeks. This announcement follows an inspection by the Capitoline Jubilee and Mobility Commissions, as detailed in a note released after their visit.

Preliminary Works Concluded, Construction Imminent

The project, financed with Jubilee funds, has been entrusted to ASTRAL Spa. Engineer Tommaso Picano, an ASTRAL executive, reported that preliminary works have been successfully completed in recent months. These included securing high-voltage cables that power the railway line, as well as remediation and excavation activities following geological and archaeological surveys and checks for unexploded ordnance.

With this phase now concluded, the project is set to enter the actual construction stage. The completion of these works is currently projected for March 2027.

Strategic Importance and Intermodal System Enhancements

For the Torrino Mezzocammino station, the project includes the creation of a new 200-space car park, which will supplement the existing 100 spaces. During the inspection, Dario Nanni, President of the Jubilee Commission, and Giovanni Zannola, President of the Mobility Commission, underscored the strategic importance of this undertaking for the affected urban area. They highlighted the critical need to improve the intermodal transport system and the overall service along the line connecting Ostia to Rome.

The statement also expressed the hope that the Lazio Region and Cotral will continue their efforts to strengthen the services linked to this crucial infrastructure.

Impact on Local Commuters and Future Developments

The new stations are expected to significantly ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity for residents in the Torrino Mezzocammino and Giardino di Roma areas. By providing more convenient access to the Roma-Lido line, the project aims to encourage greater use of public transport, reducing reliance on private vehicles and contributing to a more sustainable urban environment.

Local residents have long awaited these developments, which promise to cut down commuting times and offer a more efficient travel experience. The enhanced intermodal system will also facilitate easier transfers between different modes of transport, making daily commutes smoother for thousands of people.

Further details regarding the construction schedule and potential temporary disruptions will be communicated by ASTRAL Spa as the project progresses. The local authorities are committed to minimizing inconvenience to residents and commuters during the construction phase.

The successful completion of this project by March 2027 will mark a significant milestone in Rome’s ongoing efforts to modernize its public transport network and prepare for future urban growth.
