ROME – Viale Marconi is set for temporary night closures to facilitate urgent sewer repair works. Starting today, Friday, February 20, and continuing for several days, including the weekend, the lane heading towards Cristoforo Colombo will be inaccessible to traffic between Via Antonio Roiti and Piazza Augusto Righi. The closures will be in effect nightly from 8:30 PM to 5:00 AM.

Urgent Repairs to Damaged Sewer System

The announcement was made by Gianluca Lanzi, President of Municipio XI, who explained that the closures are essential to allow ACEA, the multiutility company responsible for water and energy services, to address a severely damaged sewer system. This damage has led to significant undermining of the subsoil, necessitating immediate intervention to ensure public safety and repair the compromised infrastructure.

President Lanzi emphasized the critical nature of these repairs, stating, “The intervention became necessary to secure the area and repair the compromised infrastructure.” The decision to schedule the works during night hours aims to minimize disruption on Viale Guglielmo Marconi, a key arterial road known for its heavy traffic during the day.

Minimizing Disruption: Night Work Strategy

The choice to concentrate the work during the night, specifically between 8:30 PM and 5:00 AM, is a deliberate strategy to reduce the impact on commuters and residents. By avoiding peak daytime hours, the municipal administration intends to mitigate traffic congestion and inconvenience for the thousands of people who use Viale Marconi daily.

“Limiting the closures to the time slot between 8:30 PM and 5:00 AM aims to contain the inconvenience for motorists and residents during daytime hours,” President Lanzi noted in his communication.

Public Transport Deviations Expected

As a direct consequence of the road closures, public transport routes in the affected area will also undergo temporary modifications. Buses will be diverted onto Via Oderisi da Gubbio to ensure the continuity of services for passengers. Commuters are advised to check local transport authority websites or apps for specific route changes and updated schedules.

Gratitude to ACEA for Collaboration

In his official statement, President Gianluca Lanzi extended his gratitude to ACEA for their prompt response and collaboration. He specifically thanked the company for accommodating the request, made jointly with the Department of Public Works and the local police, to organize the construction site during nighttime hours. This collaborative approach, according to the municipal administration, allows for the resolution of a significant structural problem while striving to limit inconvenience for the city’s inhabitants.

The works are part of a broader effort to maintain and improve Rome’s infrastructure, ensuring the safety and functionality of essential services. Residents and commuters are encouraged to exercise caution when traveling through the affected area and to follow any temporary signage or instructions from traffic personnel.

Impact on Local Commuters and Businesses

While the night-time schedule aims to reduce overall disruption, local businesses operating late into the evening and early morning, as well as residents in the immediate vicinity, may still experience some level of impact. Noise from the construction work is a potential concern, although efforts are typically made to minimize such disturbances.

The Municipio XI administration is committed to overseeing the project to ensure its timely completion and to address any unforeseen issues that may arise during the repair period. Further updates on the progress of the works and any changes to the schedule will be communicated through official channels.
