Rome, February 19 – A tragic fatal accident took place on Thursday morning on Rome’s Grande Raccordo Anulare (GRA), at kilometer 58.900, in the Ostiense area, between exits 25 (Laurentina) and 26 (Pontina). According to initial reconstructions, a scooter rider fell onto the asphalt and was then hit by an oncoming car.

Details of the Fatal Accident on the GRA

The incident occurred around 7:00 AM on Thursday, February 19. The scooter rider, whose identity has not yet been released, reportedly fell from his vehicle for reasons still under investigation. Subsequently, he was tragically struck by a car that was passing by.

The exact dynamics of the accident are being investigated by the Traffic Police, who arrived at the scene to carry out the necessary surveys. Anas personnel were also present to restore road safety conditions and manage traffic.

Traffic Chaos on the GRA

The accident caused severe repercussions on road circulation, leading to long queues and completely blocked traffic in the affected area of the GRA. Astral reported at 8:39 AM on its social channels, “Queues starting from Boccea on the outer carriageway and queues between Casilina and Ostiense on the inner carriageway.”

The Corriere della Sera also reported “significant slowdowns” before exit 29, Parco dei Medici, in the direction of Appia, due to the incident. Throughout the safety operations, traffic was maintained along the emergency lane, resulting in considerable delays.

The road section between exits 25 (Laurentina) and 26 (Pontina) was particularly affected. The situation progressively normalized in the late morning of Thursday as the road was secured and cleared.

Ongoing Investigations and Impact

The Traffic Police are continuing their investigations to determine the precise cause of the scooter rider’s fall. At this stage, no further details regarding the identity of the victim or the circumstances leading to the initial fall have been disclosed.
