Rome, February 15, 2026 – A section of a private building wall on Viale Tirreno, near Corso Sempione in Montesacro, Rome, collapsed yesterday, Saturday, February 14, 2026, falling onto the sidewalk and the outdoor seating area of a local restaurant. The incident, which occurred around 1:30 PM, caused immediate panic among patrons, but fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Wall Collapses on Restaurant Dehors
The collapse involved a perimeter wall of a private residence, which gave way and crashed onto the outdoor tables of the well-known local restaurant, C1bo. Despite the restaurant being busy with customers at lunchtime, all patrons were inside due to the rainy weather, a factor that likely prevented serious injuries.
“There were a lot of people in the restaurant,” the owner told RomaToday. “Since it was raining, everyone was inside, and luckily no one got hurt. When the wall collapsed, everyone fled the premises. We immediately evacuated the customers.”
Local police patrols from the III Nomentano group of the Rome local police promptly arrived at the scene. Firefighters were also alerted and closed off part of the roadway to facilitate inspection and verification operations.
Previous Warnings and Ongoing Investigations
According to the manager of C1bo, there had been warning signs of structural instability as early as Friday, February 13. Due to heavy rains, some stones had detached from the wall. The local police had previously cordoned off the area, but the extent of the impending collapse was not anticipated.
The restaurant has been temporarily closed following the incident. A thorough inspection by the fire department will be crucial in determining whether the establishment can reopen, even if only partially, in the coming hours or days.
This incident follows a period of adverse weather in Rome, with reports of heavy rain and strong winds. While the immediate cause of the collapse is under investigation, the prior detachment of stones and the recent weather conditions suggest a possible link. Authorities are working to ensure the safety of the area and to assess the structural integrity of the affected building.
Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses and official reports are released.
