Sardinia’s Tourism Sector Sees Record Growth, President Todde Announces at Milan BIT
Milan, February 12, 2026 – The Autonomous Region of Sardinia presented updated data on its regional tourism sector at the Borsa Internazionale del Turismo (BIT) in Milan yesterday. The figures, illustrated by Tourism Councillor Franco Cuccureddu, confirm a period of significant growth and a transformation of the island’s development model.
“Sardinia is growing and doing so by changing its model. The data presented demonstrates that we are building a more balanced vision of tourism, capable of generating development without compromising the identity of the territories,” stated Alessandra Todde, President of the Sardinia Region.
President Todde further added, “We believe in a Sardinia that welcomes and grows without losing its identity. For us, tourism is not just about economics but also quality of life, a balance between communities and visitors, and development that remains in the territories and builds value twelve months a year.”
Key Figures and International Influx
According to the numbers presented by the Councillor, Sardinia surpassed 21,802,414 overnight stays and 5,107,768 arrivals in 2025. This represents a substantial growth of +15.6% and +15.1% respectively compared to 2024. This outcome underscores the strengthening of the regional tourism system and the collective contribution of economic operators, local administrations, and institutions.
The trend in international tourist flows is also significant. Foreign tourists increased by +21.7% and now account for 56% of total overnight stays. Germany remains the leading European market, while the United States has emerged as the primary non-European market.
Season Extension and Accommodation Growth
A central element of the regional strategy is the process of extending the tourist season. Over the past two years, October has seen a growth of 46%, November 52%, and December 51%. These figures indicate a progressive lengthening of the tourist season and new economic opportunities for the territories, even during non-summer months.
The regional accommodation system also shows signs of consolidation. With over 51,377 structures and more than 452,284 beds, the sector is expanding and becoming increasingly transparent. This is partly attributed to ongoing efforts to regularize tourist rentals.
The presentation at BIT Milan highlights Sardinia’s commitment to a sustainable and diversified tourism model, aiming to benefit both visitors and local communities throughout the year.
