ROME, February 10, 2026 – A man was electrocuted to death during an attempted copper theft in Pomezia, a town near Rome. The incident occurred on Sunday evening, and the body was discovered yesterday.
Body Discovered in Electrical Cabin
Carabinieri from the Pomezia station were called to the site of the former Interprovincial Agrarian Consortium of Rome and Frosinone yesterday evening. An electrical system maintenance worker found a body inside an electrical cabin within the structure.
Upon arrival, military personnel, along with firefighters and technical staff from Enel-Distribuzione, confirmed the presence of a carbonized body. Initial investigations suggest the death was caused by electrocution during Sunday evening, as part of a partially successful attempt to steal copper. The victim was identified as a 45-year-old Italian man from Torvaianica, who was already known to law enforcement.
Investigation Underway
Following technical assessments and standard procedures, the Public Prosecutor on duty authorized the release of the body to the family, who then formally identified the deceased. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
This event highlights the dangers associated with copper theft, which continues to be a problem in various regions. Authorities are urging individuals to refrain from such dangerous activities, which can lead to severe injuries or fatalities, as tragically demonstrated in this case.
