Naples Prefect Establishes Regular Meetings on Bagnoli America’s Cup Works

Naples, February 9, 2026 – Following a meeting at the Prefecture between institutions and citizens regarding the works for the America’s Cup, the Prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, announced the establishment of a periodic observation table. This initiative aims to address the concerns of Bagnoli residents who have voiced dissatisfaction over a lack of information.

“From today’s meeting, the need for discussions between the committees and the commissioner’s structure emerged, as many have complaints about the lack of information. Therefore, I proposed organizing an observation table at the Prefecture. We will meet in a month, and the structure will provide information for the various committees, delving into specific elements,” stated Prefect di Bari at the conclusion of the lengthy meeting. Notably, the “No America’s Cup Network” did not participate in this particular gathering.

Citizen Engagement and Transparency Efforts

Prefect di Bari acknowledged the peaceful demonstration held on Saturday, thanking the organizers. He also condemned a graffiti message targeting Mayor Manfredi, expressing solidarity with the mayor. “Many committees were present today and welcomed the proposal for a meeting. I hope that other committees that were not here today can also join us soon. In a month, there will be another meeting, and I hope that even those who did not attend today will be there,” he added.

The Prefect outlined three key areas for transparent collaboration: public health, material transportation, and the future developments in Bagnoli. “Step by step, we will accompany this path of understanding and civic participation, and today’s participants agreed,” di Bari affirmed.

Challenges Regarding Work Suspension

Regarding the request from Bagnoli residents to suspend the works, a demand voiced during Saturday’s demonstration, the Prefect explained the complexities involved. “It is a very complex request because there are signed work contracts that also include potential damages to be paid; it is not simple. However, with everyone, even those who did not participate today, I believe we can meet as soon as possible to deepen the issues on which these committees can see how the entire project improves, including on the theme of information.”

The Prefect’s office aims to foster greater dialogue and ensure that the community is adequately informed about the progress and implications of the America’s Cup infrastructure projects in Bagnoli. The next meeting is scheduled for one month from now, with the hope of broader participation from all concerned citizen groups.
