Barilla’s Artistic Installation Against Food Waste Debuts in Rome
Rome, February 3, 2026 – Barilla, in collaboration with artist Mauro Seresini and animator Virgilio Villoresi, has unveiled a unique artistic installation in Rome aimed at combating food waste. The interactive ‘musical book’ with animated windows, opening to food-themed videos, premiered in Piazza del Popolo. The launch event was attended by significant figures, including the Minister of Agriculture, Francesco Lollobrigida, the Mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri, and the Vice President of the Barilla Foundation, Paolo Barilla.
This initiative coincides with the National Day for the Prevention of Food Waste, observed on February 5th. It follows a year after Barilla’s publication of the ‘Book of Savings,’ a guide detailing 120 practical actions to reduce food waste in daily life.
Mayor Gualtieri Emphasizes Importance of the Initiative
Mayor Roberto Gualtieri highlighted the dual nature of the installation: “It’s not just an artistic installation that evokes the magical fairy-tale world of childhood, but it also connects to a very important theme: the fight against food waste and the full utilization of our products. This means quality, savings, ecology, and attention to the most vulnerable, because food waste in a society where people go hungry cannot be accepted or tolerated.”
A Nationwide Tour to Promote Awareness
The installation will remain in Rome until February 18th, moving between Piazza del Popolo, Piazza di Spagna (February 6-10), and Piazza in Lucina (February 11-18). Following its Roman debut, the exhibition will embark on a tour across Italy, visiting ten other cities until May 11th. Planned stops include Parma, Perugia, Naples, Bologna, Bari, Padua, Palermo, Turin, and Genoa, concluding its journey in Milan’s Piazza Cordusio.
The project underscores Barilla’s ongoing commitment to promoting sustainable practices and raising public awareness about the critical issue of food waste. Through this engaging and artistic approach, Barilla aims to inspire individuals and communities to adopt more mindful consumption habits and contribute to a more sustainable future.
