New Excavations Begin at Rome’s Casa del Jazz in Adinolfi Case
Rome, February 2, 2026 – New excavations commenced on Monday at the Casa del Jazz, formerly Villa Osio, in Rome, as authorities revisit the 1994 disappearance of Judge Paolo Adinolfi. The operation, supervised by the Prefecture, involved firefighters, Carabinieri, and army personnel. The focus of the renewed search is a cuniculus, approximately fifteen meters deep, believed to be connected to the catacombs beneath the former Villa Osio.
The current inspection follows an announcement by Prefect Lamberto Giannini at the end of last year, indicating that investigations would resume. Firefighters from the provincial command of Via Genova are assessing the safety conditions required to access the tunnel, an entry point to which was reportedly identified in December, prior to the suspension of earlier excavations and georadar surveys. These efforts have also been informed by testimonies from individuals who worked at Villa Osio.
Pietro Orlandi Present, Urges Search for Emanuela
Among those present at the site were the children of Judge Paolo Adinolfi, Lorenzo and Giovanna, as well as Pietro Orlandi, brother of Emanuela Orlandi, who disappeared in 1983, eleven years before Judge Adinolfi. Orlandi, accompanied by family lawyer Laura Sgrò, reiterated his plea for authorities to also search for his sister, suggesting that the tunnel might hold clues related to both disappearances.
The Casa del Jazz, now owned by the Municipality of Rome, was confiscated in the 2000s from Enrico Nicoletti, a boss of the Banda della Magliana, who passed away in 2020. It was subsequently transformed into a multifunctional cultural and musical center in 2005. The suspicion remains that this tunnel could conceal not only the secrets of the boss and his criminal activities but also remains or clues that could finally shed light on the mystery of Judge Adinolfi’s disappearance and, as Emanuela’s relatives have stated, that of Emanuela herself.
Investigation into the Secrets of the Boss and Unsolved Cases
The underground investigation was initiated based on findings from months of assessments by former judge Guglielmo Muntoni, currently the president of the Observatory on Economic Crime of the Chamber of Commerce. Muntoni has been instrumental in pushing for these renewed efforts.
The presence of both the Adinolfi family and Pietro Orlandi underscores the enduring hope that these new excavations might finally provide answers to long-standing mysteries that have gripped Italy for decades. The authorities are proceeding with caution, prioritizing safety while meticulously exploring the subterranean passages.
This renewed investigative effort highlights the persistent commitment to resolving cold cases and ensuring justice, even decades after the initial events. The outcome of these excavations is eagerly awaited by the families involved and the wider public.
