The closure, impacting the route between San Paolo and Rebibbia/Ionio, is set to begin at 9 PM on Friday, January 30, and will continue until 5:30 AM on Sunday, February 1. Affected Metro B and B1 Sections and Alternative Transport
The interruption of train services will specifically affect the Metro B and B1 lines on the San Paolo to Rebibbia/Ionio stretch, and vice versa, throughout the weekend. To mitigate inconvenience for commuters, Atac, Rome’s public transport company, has activated two substitute bus lines:
- MB7: Operating between San Paolo and Rebibbia.
- MB1: Running from Piazza Bologna to Viale Ionio.
Passengers traveling on the B1 line will need to transfer at Piazza Bologna to continue their journey by bus. The last metro trains on January 30 will depart at 9 PM in both directions, after which services will be limited to the San Paolo-Laurentina section.
Ticket Offices and Exchange Car Parks
Adding to the weekend’s transport challenges, ticket offices at Conca d’Oro, Termini, and Piramide stations will be closed on January 31 and February 1. Exchange car parks along the Metro B line will, however, maintain their regular operating hours:
- January 30 and 31: 5:15 AM to 2:15 AM
- February 1: 5:15 AM to 12:15 AM
Challenges for Fiumicino Airport Access
Reaching Fiumicino Airport by public transport this weekend is expected to be particularly challenging. This is due not only to the metro closure but also to ongoing railway circulation interruptions between Tiburtina and Ostiense stations, related to the construction of the Pigneto hub. Normally, passengers could take Metro B from Tiburtina to Piramide and then proceed to Ostiense for a train to the airport. This route will not be feasible during the metro shutdown.
