Tree Collapse on Via dei Fori Imperiali in Rome Injures Three

Rome, February 1st – Three people were slightly injured yesterday afternoon when a large tree collapsed on Via dei Fori Imperiali, near the Trajan’s Forum. The incident occurred around 1:30 PM. The injured, a 17-year-old Italian girl and two foreign men aged 34 and 42, were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

Emergency Response and Area Closure

Emergency services, including 118 ambulances and firefighters, were immediately dispatched to the scene. Firefighters are currently working to remove the fallen pine tree and ensure no other individuals were involved in the collapse. The local police of Rome Capital, with the assistance of the Carabinieri from Piazza Venezia Command, have cordoned off the area to verify and restore safe conditions.

Following the incident, Via dei Fori Imperiali, from Largo Corrado Ricci to Piazza Venezia, has been closed to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic. This closure allows competent authorities to inspect the remaining trees in the area for safety. The local police have implemented traffic management measures to mitigate disruptions.

Investigation into the Cause

At present, the cause of the tree collapse is under investigation. Authorities are working to determine the factors that led to the incident. There have been no immediate reports of structural damage to nearby historical sites.

The incident highlights concerns about urban tree maintenance, especially in areas with high pedestrian traffic and historical significance. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses and safety assessments are completed.

The three injured individuals are reported to be in non-serious condition, a reassuring outcome given the potential dangers of such an event in a busy urban setting.
