Rome Prepares for ‘Corsa di Miguel’ 2026: Major Traffic Disruptions Expected
Rome, January 18, 2026 – The Foro Italico area is set to host the 27th edition of the ‘Corsa di Miguel’ today, a significant sporting event dedicated to combating racism and honoring the memory of Argentinian poet-runner Miguel Sanchez. Organized by the Central Athletic Club, the marathon is expected to draw over 15,000 participants, necessitating extensive traffic modifications across the city.
Road Closures and Parking Restrictions
To facilitate the event, several roads will be closed, and parking restrictions will be enforced. Starting at 00:01 on Sunday, January 18, and lasting until 13:00, a no-parking zone will be in effect on Lungotevere Thaon de Revel (river side) and Viale Pinturicchio, between Via Flaminia and civic number 8. Further closures will occur from 6:30 to 9:00, impacting Lungotevere Maresciallo Diaz, from Viale Antonino di San Giuliano to Viale Boselli.
The main transit prohibitions will be in place from 8:00 to 12:00, affecting numerous key arteries. These include Lungotevere Thaon de Revel (from Ponte Milvio to Ponte Duca D’Aosta), Ponte Duca D’Aosta, and a section of Lungotevere Flaminio. Other affected areas include Piazza Gentile Da Fabriano, Largo Sarti, Ponte Risorgimento, Lungotevere Maresciallo Diaz (between Piazza Lauro de Bosis and Viale Antonino di San Giuliano, and the carriageway towards Ponte Milvio), Lungotevere Maresciallo Cadorna, Viale Paolo Boselli, Viale Antonino da San Giuliano, the ramp of Via del Foro Italico towards the Stadium, Via Mario Toscano, Lungotevere Fellini, Lungotevere della Vittoria, Viale Carso, Via Monte Zebio, and Lungotevere Oberdan.
Public Transport Deviations
The sporting event will also significantly impact local public transport. Throughout the morning, the routes of 12 bus lines – C2, C3, 32, 53, 69, 200, 201, 280, 301, 446, 628, and 911 – will be diverted or limited. Line 982 may experience deviations or slowdowns, while line 226 will not reach its terminus at Piazza Mancini, instead limiting its service to Corso Francia.
Inclusion and Participation: The Spirit of ‘Corsa di Miguel’
Rome’s Mayor, Roberto Gualtieri, emphasized the unique nature of the ‘Corsa di Miguel’, highlighting its ability to combine sports with values, fostering broad participation and uniting citizens from professional athletes to families. “This year there is a particular participation: we had to increase the waves for the fifteen thousand people present, we are very happy,” said Mayor Gualtieri at the start of the race. He added that the event underscores Rome’s commitment to being “a place of inclusion, democracy, rights, and participation.”
Alessandro Onorato, Councillor for Major Events, Sport, Tourism, and Fashion, also expressed his satisfaction, noting the continuous growth in participant numbers, exceeding 15,000 this year. Onorato praised the event for promoting not only sport but also social, educational, and cultural messages through initiatives like “Onda donna” (Women’s Wave) and “Strantirazzismo” (Anti-racism Run).
The ‘Corsa di Miguel’ has become a cherished annual event in Rome, celebrating sport, community, and the enduring message of peace and anti-racism.
