LONATE POZZOLO, Varese – A burglary at a villa in Lonate Pozzolo tragically concluded with the death of one of the intruders. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, January 14, involved two men attempting to rob a home, where they were confronted by the homeowner.
Homeowner Defends Property, Burglar Fatally Wounded
At approximately 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 14, two individuals unlawfully entered a villa with the intent to commit theft. The homeowner, present at the time, surprised the intruders, leading to a physical altercation. During the struggle, the homeowner sustained multiple punches to the face. In an act of self-defense, he used a knife, striking one of the burglars in the chest.
Following the confrontation, the injured burglar and his accomplice quickly fled the scene in a car driven by a third member of their group, who had been waiting outside. The wounded man was subsequently dropped off by his accomplices at Magenta Hospital in the province of Milan. Despite immediate medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
Identity of the Deceased and Political Reaction
The deceased has been identified as Adamo Massa, a 37-year-old man of Romani ethnicity, residing in a nomadic camp in Turin. Massa had a history of previous offenses. Upon learning of the incident, Deputy Prime Minister and League leader Matteo Salvini expressed his solidarity with the homeowner via X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Solidarity with those attacked in their own home who defended themselves!”
Hospital Overrun by Relatives and Protests
The tragic outcome of the burglary led to a volatile situation outside Fornaroli Hospital in Magenta. Approximately 200 friends and relatives of Adamo Massa gathered, demanding information about his condition. This crowd eventually invaded the emergency room waiting area, with some attempting to force entry, ultimately damaging the entrance door.
Around 4:00 PM, Massa’s mother, visibly distraught and in tears, was wheeled out of the facility. The crowd immediately surrounded her and Massa’s brother, attempting to console them as they were escorted to a car. Law enforcement, including police and Carabinieri, were present to manage the scene, filtering entry into the hospital and eventually calming the situation. The damaged door was later repaired.

The investigation into the incident is being coordinated by the Busto Arsizio Public Prosecutor’s Office and conducted by the Carabinieri. The events in Lonate Pozzolo have highlighted ongoing concerns regarding public safety and the right to self-defense in Italy.
