Milan Cortina 2026: Traffic Regulations for Antholz Valley Access

Publication Date: January 9, 2026

Last Updated: January 9, 2026

Applies to: All residents, commuters, businesses, and visitors to Antholz Valley during the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.

With less than a month remaining until the inauguration of the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games, Antholz Valley, and the Municipality of Rasen-Antholz, are set to play a pivotal role, hosting the eagerly anticipated biathlon competitions from February 8th to 21st at the newly renovated Südtirol Arena Alto Adige.

During the competition period, the access area to Antholz Valley will be subject to an extraordinary traffic regulation system, similar to other territories involved in the Winter Olympics. This will involve the introduction of temporary Limited Traffic Zones (ZTLs), specifically referred to as “Olympic ZTLs.” This means that during the Olympic events, access to these areas will be granted exclusively to vehicles displaying a special “Territory Car Pass” on their windshield, following provided instructions.

THREE DISTINCT ZONES MAPPED

To access Antholz Valley during the competition days, a 3-zone system will be in effect. A specific Car Pass is required for entry into each zone, and these passes must be collected physically, as they are adhesive stickers to be affixed to the vehicle’s windshield. Access limitations to the Biathlon Center and for crossing towards Lake Antholz will commence on January 7th. The Red Zone, in relation to the Purple and Yellow Zones, has additional elements and includes a preliminary and post-event phase.

Purple Zone

  • Area: Between Antholz Mittertal and Antholz Obertal.
  • Access Requirement: Car Pass needed from 08:00 to 19:00.
  • Circulation within Zone: Free without a pass.
  • Exit Requirement: No pass required for exiting.

Yellow Zone (OpenStreetMap Zone 2)

  • Area: From Rasen-Antholz Niedertal to Antholz Mittertal.
  • Access Requirement: Car Pass needed from 08:00 to 14:00.
  • Circulation within Zone: Free without a pass.
  • Exit Requirement: No pass required for exiting.

The ZTLs will only be active on competition days, with the first Olympic race scheduled for February 8th.

“These are different types of passes created for the local population, businesses, commuters, or guests to ensure the traffic filters required by the Olympic protocol,” emphasizes Thomas Schuster, Mayor of the Municipality of Rasen-Antholz. “A distribution point will be set up at the entrance to Antholz Valley, where daily passes can be collected directly on-site if necessary.”

SPECTATORS

Spectators can access Antholz Valley with their private cars up to the parking areas in Antholz Mittertal without a Car Pass, provided they present a valid competition ticket at the control point at the Rasen roundabout. Spectators are advised to travel by train to Olang station and then continue with free shuttle buses to the stadium.

CAR PASS APPLICATION AND COLLECTION

Multi-day passes must be applied for online by January 15, 2026, via the website: https://passauto.milanocortina2026.org/it/. The Municipality of Rasen-Antholz offers support for any questions or clarifications. Multi-day passes must be collected in person by January 30, 2026, at the Municipality of Rasen-Antholz or the Antholz Valley Tourist Office.

A dedicated shuttle service is available for people with disabilities. This service must be booked online in advance and is exclusively reserved for visitors who have purchased a ticket for people with disabilities.

GUARANTEED PUBLIC MOBILITY

Bus line 431 will operate during the 10 competition days with regular fares, and during this period, the final stop will be “Wildgall.” Shuttle buses A, B, and C to Antholz Mittertal, however, are free for all passengers.
