Cosenza, December 23, 2025 – Pietro Guarino, the esteemed technical director of CSI Tennistavolo Cava, proudly served as one of the 10,001 torchbearers for the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics. This significant event saw Olympic and Paralympic athletes, celebrities, and ordinary citizens participate in carrying the Flame, symbolizing the spirit of the upcoming XXV Winter Olympic Games.

Guarino’s Illustrious Sports Career and Torchbearer Selection

Guarino, a prominent figure in Italian sports, boasts an impressive career. He has previously held positions as a federal councilor and president of the FITeT Campania Regional Committee. His dedication to sports was further recognized with the prestigious Gold Star for Sporting Merit from CONI. His selection as a torchbearer came after successfully applying through a public call, which attracted over a million applications from across the nation.

An Unexpected Journey to Cosenza

Despite hoping to be chosen for a city closer to his hometown of Cava de’ Tirreni, Guarino’s appointment to carry the Flame was set for Cosenza, a city located 270 km away. Undeterred by the distance, he made every effort to be present in the Calabrian city by 8:45 AM, ready for the 16th stage of the relay, which commenced at 11:45 AM.

The Emotional Climax of the Cosenza Relay

Guarino had the distinct honor of being the final torchbearer in the Cosenza leg of the relay. In a poignant moment, he passed the Flame to the Lantern, which then fueled the subsequent stages through Crotone, Maratea, Paestum, Battipaglia, and Bellizzi. The day’s relay concluded in Salerno, at Piazza della Libertà, at 7:30 PM.

Reflecting on the experience, Guarino shared, “It was a fantastic experience, and it gave me an incomparable emotion. I will carry that moment in my heart forever, crowning a life dedicated to sport and its values.”

The Grand Finale at San Siro Olympic Stadium

The Olympic Torch relay is scheduled to conclude its 60-stage journey on Friday, February 6, at the Milano San Siro Olympic Stadium. This will mark the official opening ceremony of the XXV Winter Olympic Games of Milan Cortina, an event eagerly anticipated by sports enthusiasts worldwide.

The journey of the Flame, with its diverse torchbearers, underscores the inclusive spirit of the Olympic Games, bringing together individuals from all walks of life to celebrate human achievement and the universal values of sport.
