Rome, December 22 – A tragic road accident occurred in Rome early this morning, resulting in the death of a 27-year-old woman. The incident involved an Atac bus and a Fiat 500, leaving another young woman seriously injured. The collision took place around 5:30 AM on Viale dei Romagnoli, at the intersection with Via Andrea da Garessio, a stretch of road between Acilia and Dragoncello.
Fatal Collision Claims Young Life
Emergency services, including 118 medical personnel, Ostia firefighters, and local police from the XII Monteverde group, swiftly responded to the scene. Despite immediate efforts, the 27-year-old, who was reportedly driving the Fiat 500, succumbed to her injuries. She was extracted from the wreckage and resuscitated, but her wounds proved too severe.
Her friend, aged 26, was rushed to Grassi Hospital in Ostia in critical condition. The 52-year-old Atac bus driver also sustained injuries and was transported to the hospital in yellow code.
Investigation Underway
The local police of Roma Capitale are actively investigating the dynamics of the fatal crash. Initial observations suggest a strong, head-on impact, with both the bus and the white Fiat sustaining extensive damage to their windshields. The car, carrying the two young women, was found in a ditch.
Both vehicles have been seized as part of the investigation. An autopsy has been ordered for the 27-year-old victim, and authorities are now investigating the incident as vehicular homicide.
Road Closure and Traffic Impact
Viale dei Romagnoli was closed to traffic from 5:45 AM to facilitate forensic examination by the investigating officers. The affected section stretched between Via Andrea da Garessio and Via Giuseppe Bernardo Gambaro. Patrols from the X Mare and IX Eur groups were dispatched to assist the Monteverde group.
History of Accidents on Viale dei Romagnoli
The stretch of Viale dei Romagnoli where the accident occurred is known for its numerous intersections and is considered particularly dangerous. In July of last year, an Atac bus collided with a house wall in an incident between Viale dei Romagnoli and Via dei Monti di San Paolo. Earlier this year, Ivan Rulli was tragically struck and killed by a 43-year-old motorist on a different section of the same road, near Via Charles Lenormant, also on the border between Dragona and Acilia.
The community is once again reminded of the urgent need for enhanced road safety measures in this area.
